PEER OBSERVATION WRITE-UP
I had the pleasure of observing the teaching demonstration done by HS/TE18/0014 on the 22nd of August. The class comprised both male and female students. Overall, it was a commendable demonstration of efficient classroom management techniques.
During the observation, her instructional strategies grabbed
my attention as well as leaner attention. That is because she has equipped herself
with puppets as props to visually present her teaching. That shows her
enthusiasm and knack for handling the teacher-learner bond. For instance,
Teacher- Here is the froggy. Froggy says; “I can jump”
Now
tell me what does the froggy say?. This was demonstrated with puppets.
Moreover, she maintained a flow and structure within her lesson. First, she explained the rule and made students deduce the meaning through realistic commands such as “Can you touch your nose?”, and “Can you touch your head?”. Thereby, the modal verb ‘can’ was highlighted. Precisely, she grabbed the attention of the audience with her tools and tricks.
During this classroom observation, she as the teacher used effective classroom management strategies. It was clear that the teacher had prepared thoroughly because the class plan was organized nicely and contained a variety of engaging exercises. However, the disruption to the lesson's flow and focus of the lesson can be emphasized if she is able to equip herself with classroom management techniques such as layout and other learner materials. Although she was concerned about timing and elaborating the components, she managed it to a certain extent by hindering panic moods. It was noted she decided on the usage of intervention "being supportive" which I did not notice much. In fact, it is recommended to have pauses in between and ask comprehension questions.
Further, She exhibited herself as a teacher with a good personality; especially with facial expressions. However, I would love to suggest that she has to maintain her stance as an educator. For instance, maintaining eye contact, walking around the class, proper standing posture, and anchoring herself while teaching without unnecessary leg movements can be utilized in teaching demonstrations.
In conclusion, I gained new perspectives on effective classroom management techniques and creative teaching strategies; especially for kids. I also realized that maintaining a balance between theory and activities is crucial but the effectiveness is manageable. Also, while teaching we do not think about our delivery and body movements, but it is a vital factor to be considered while teaching because the way of delivery showcases our personality.
Observation is yet another mode of learning where we can collect more tools to be equipped!!!
